This interactive version has multiple levels and options that make playing this classic game an endless amount of fun. You can choose your difficulty from 1 (let me win) to 10 (incredibly hard) and also who your opponent will be (my Kindle or my friend sitting next to me).
And, with
Checkers, you decide on the rules. In Forced Jump, you have to jump if you can. Choosing the Relaxed mode allows you to not jump if you don't want to. In Tournament, the Kindle will play three random moves at the start of a new game. Like your opponent's game a bit better? Swap sides. Stuck on what to do next? You can get hints for your next best move. And if all else fails, just undo your last moves—all the way to the beginning of the game.
How long before you're crowned king?
Features
Handcrafted to be easy and fun to play, Checkers has many features:
Simple Fast Play
Game play is highly optimized for the Kindle. Most moves can be completed in one or two key presses. Press the letter of the alphabet that corresponds to the piece you want to move. They're easy to see in a large, easy to read font. If there is only one valid destination, your move is complete! If there are choices, pick the letter of the square you want to move to. In rare cases, you'll have multiple routes to the destination, so there will be a third key to press.
Ten difficulty levels
Checkers is playable by anyone. The difficulty levels 1 through 3 actively try to help you win. It will sacrifice pieces, ignore opportunities to jump and generally give you a chance. Intermediate levels of 4-7 play at a good range of casual levels. Bump it up to 8-10 and the engine will take longer to play and become a very challenging player. The engine is written by Martin Fierz as a mobile version of the the World Class "Cake" engine. Read all about it

Single Player (Pass'n'Play)
Play against the Kindle or a friend. The game will swap ends so you can each view the board from the best position. The full features of the game are still available, like swap sides, backup moves and hints. This is a great mode for playing with a traveling companion.
Change your mind, back up a move (or more!)
Isn't it horrible when you make a move and immediately realize you messed up! Or you realize you made a strategic error three moves ago? Just press the Back key on your Kindle to retract your previous moves and then pick your new move.
Swap sides
Did you ever play a board game with your older sibling who was trouncing you -- until you convinced them to switch sides so you could take advantage of their stronger position? Press the "S" key in checkers (or choose it from the Menu), and you can do the same thing. "Take that, computer!"
Choose from relaxed, regular or tournament rules
According to the checkers rules (see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_draughts), if you are able to capture an opponents piece, then you must. However, many people play that jumping is optional, so Checkers has that setting too. In fact, so many people play that way, that it is the default setting. If you're looking for more of a challenge, set the rules to "Forced Jump". Or, simulate tournament play by opening with 3 "random" moves. (The moves aren't truly random - they simulate moves that would be made by good players on both sides).
Choose who goes first
Sometimes you feel like going first, other times waiting. No problem. Just choose your preference in when you start a new game. Change your mind? Just Swap sides!
Get a hint if you like
Learning how to play? Struggling over the choice of the next move? Press the Z key to get an onscreen hint on where to move next.
Offer and accept draws
Offer the Kindle a draw by pressing D. If it accepts, you're likely in a good position to win! Maybe it's better to cancel your offer and continue on! You like to see things through, but want to end the game and keep it 'official'? Offer a draw.
